About Emily & The Brightway Company

Independent aged care guidance from someone who’s been there —
and knows how to help.

Hi, I’m Emily — the founder of The Brightway Company. I’m a registered nurse with almost 20 years of experience in intensive care and community aged care, and I created Brightway to help older Australians and their loved ones feel confident, informed, and supported as they navigate the aged care system.

Over the years, I’ve seen how confusing, frustrating, and emotionally exhausting aged care can be — not just for older people, but for their families, too. In my role as an aged care assessor, I often see people being handed information, or care plans designed, that seemed to benefit providers more than the client/family. It doesn’t sit right with me. This is why I tend to go on about being ‘independent’ a fair bit. I’m not affiliated with any of these providers.

That’s why I started Brightway: to offer independent (see, here I go), unbiased advice — free from the influence of aged care providers — so families can make informed choices that truly suit their needs.

A little more about me:

  • Registered Nurse (Postgraduate qualifications in ICU Nursing)

  • Master of Public Health

  • Aged Care Assessor

  • Community health experience in Australia, the UK, and Canada

  • Passionate about helping people stay safely at home for as long as possible — and supporting them (and their families) when it’s time to transition to full-time care

Working internationally — in places like London and Vancouver — gave me a deep appreciation for how community health can support dignity, independence, and safety. It shaped my belief that aged care shouldn’t just be about ticking boxes — it should be about listening, planning, and doing what’s best for each individual.

What matters to me

I believe in walking beside people, not ahead of them.

That means:

  • Involving older people in decisions, always

  • Supporting families who are feeling overwhelmed, worried, or stuck

  • Finding solutions that respect both safety and independence

The aged care system isn’t perfect. Waitlists are long, information can be vague, and it’s easy to feel lost. But with clear guidance, honest advice, and a thoughtful plan, we can make it work for you — not the other way around.

If you’re here because you’re unsure what to do next — whether you’re planning ahead or facing a crisis — you don’t have to do this alone.
Let’s talk. I’d love to help.
